January 11 - 1919 NZ Army 'UK XV' big win at Leicester

In their last match before meeting the NZ Army “Divisional XV” the “UK XV” recorded a 19 – 0 (five tries to nil) win over Leicester. It was their fifth match and a heartening result after two hard matches against Welsh XVs, a 3 – 0 loss on Boxing Day followed by a 3 all draw on New Year’s Day.

It is hardly surprising that the “UK XV” achieved good results. The XV that played Leicester included past and/or future All Black backs in Jack O’Brien, Dick Roberts, Jack Stohr, Eric Cockroft, Billy Fea and Charles Brown. It was no different in the forward pack with All Blacks Toby Murray, Richard Fogarty, Alex Bruce, “Ranji” Wilson, Jim Moffitt and “Nut” Hasell.

Scorers:

J A Bruce, R Fogarty, H V Murray, W R Fea and R W Roberts tries. E A Cockroft dropped goal (19).
