Liam Messam

Liam Messam made his New Zealand Maori debut at the 2006 Churchill Cup tournament, and was also named Player of the tournament.

He is one of the game’s most versatile players and promising loose forwards.

In 2004, at the age of just 20, he captained the New Zealand Sevens team to its fifth IRB Sevens title and in 2005 led the team to the final of the IRB Sevens World Cup tournament.

In 2006 he was part of the gold medal winning Sevens team at the Melbourne Commonwealth games.

He made his Rebel Sport Super 14 debut for the Chiefs in 2006 and has since played 34 games for the franchise.

Career Notes
• Won a Commonwealth Games gold medal for Sevens.
• Played in every game for the Chiefs and Waikato in 2007 and 2008.
• Has represented New Zealand at 21 Sevens Tournaments, and captained the Champion sides in 2004 and 2005.
• Was the leading forward try scorer in New Zealand first class rugby in 2006, with 15 tries.
