Brad Thorn

1 August 2010

Thorn’s made a huge impact since his move to rugby union from league.

After initially experimenting as a loose forward, Thorn settled at lock in 2003 and made rapid strides as he developed into a key member of both the Crusaders and All Blacks’ packs.

He was first selected for the All Blacks at the end of 2001 but withdrew so that he could take time to decide on his sporting future.

He played seven seasons for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL before switching to union.

Career Notes
• Took up rugby union in 2001 after an illustrious rugby league career that included representing Australia.
• Declined his first opportunity to tour with the All Blacks in 2001.
• Did not play rugby union or league at all in 2002.
• Scored the first try for the All Blacks at Rugby World Cup 2003.
• Returned to union in 2008 after a second stint in rugby league, from 2005 to 2007.
