Andrew Hore is renowned as an old-school All Black from a farming background who made his name as a hard-running, no-nonsense front-rower with an eye for the chalk.
In 2006, he hit the headlines with a hat-trick in the Hurricanes' win over the Chiefs, the first ever by a hooker in Rebel Sport Super 14 history.
Hore’s rugby career developed in the harsh surrounds of the Maniototo in Central Otago and, although he moved north to Taranaki in 2001, he still enjoys a certain cult status in the Maniototo area.
Career Notes
• Played in all three matches on the Junior All Blacks tour to Australia in 2005, starting the tour opener against Queensland and the second international against Australia A.
• His six tries in the 2004 Rebel Sport Super 12, repeated in the 2006 Super 14, equal the most by a hooker in any year in this competition.
• He played in every match for Taranaki in 2001, and was their leading try-scorer with five.
• A log jam of top hookers in Otago saw him play for the Crusaders in the Super 12 and then transfer to Taranaki for the 2001 Air New Zealand NPC season and earn selection for the Hurricanes.
• His brother Charles has represented Otago and Canterbury at first five-eighth, has played in Scotland, and for the Highlanders.
